Hypertension

Hypertension

1. Vasodilation and "Direct" Blood Pressure Reduction

Research from the HYPER-H21-4 clinical trials (2024–2025) has highlighted how specific cannabinoids in FECO interact with the vascular system:

CBD-Induced Relaxation: CBD acts as a vasodilator, meaning it relaxes the smooth muscle walls of the blood vessels. This reduces "total peripheral resistance," making it easier for the heart to pump blood and directly lowering arterial blood pressure.

Arterial Stiffness: 2025 data suggests that chronic dosing of full-spectrum extracts can reduce arterial stiffness by approximately 0.7 m/s, which is a key marker for long-term hypertensive damage.

The Nighttime "Reset": In patients with untreated hypertension, FECO has been shown to be particularly effective at lowering blood pressure during sleep—a critical time when "non-dipping" blood pressure can increase the risk of stroke.

2. Stress-Induced Hypertension (The "Anxiety Buffer")

For many, hypertension is driven by a hyper-active "fight or flight" response.

Blunting the Stress Response: A single dose of FECO can reduce the systolic blood pressure response to stress by roughly 5–6 mmHg. It works by modulating the HPA axis, preventing the massive surges of adrenaline and cortisol that cause "spiking" blood pressure.

Heart Rate Modulation: While THC can raise the heart rate, the terpenes in FECO (like Linalool and Myrcene) work synergistically with CBD to provide a sedative effect that can counter-balance stress-related tachycardia.

FECO & Blood Pressure Medication Interactions

If you are already taking antihypertensives, FECO can create a "compounding effect":

Medication ClassInteraction with FECORisk Level
Diuretics (HCTZ)Additive effect; may cause blood pressure to drop too low.Moderate
Beta-BlockersFECO can inhibit the liver enzymes that process these drugs.Moderate
Calcium Channel BlockersMay lead to extreme lethargy, dizziness, or fainting.Moderate
Blood ThinnersFECO increases the concentration of thinners in the blood.Moderate

2026 Usage Guidelines for Hypertension

CBD-Dominant Ratios: Using a ratio of 20:1 (CBD to THC) or higher to ensure the vasodilatory benefits outweigh the heart-rate-stimulating effects of THC.

Sublingual Dosing: Bypassing the first-pass metabolism of the liver can lead to a more predictable blood pressure response.

Consistency: Occasional use can cause more "spikes" than steady, low-dose daily use, as the body builds a tolerance to the initial heart-rate-raising effects of THC.
